Brother Dan Brent Hinds

 -1930-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The installation of the officers for 1930 was held in Madera Lodge 280 and they were installed along with Madera Lodge 280, Joppa Lodge 558, Kerman Lodge 420. The Grand Master of Mason's, Most Worshipful Wallenburg, was the installing officer, and the Grand Lecturer, Wor, Bro. Thomas Baker, was the master of ceremonies.

In February of this year we investigated the possibility of purchasing the old Presbyterian Church which was located on the corner of Fifth and DeWitt avenues. A committee of three, P.M. C. T. Reyburn, P.M. L. E. Weldon, and Bro. M. S. McMurtry.

A first in a series of five talks was given by Bro. M. S. McMurtry on the Ancient Land marks of Masonry and gave a hard hitting talk on the secrets of Masonry and of the promiscuous use of the cube when voting. This subject was chosen and it seems funny, since he had been rejected several times in balloting.

There is a telegram in the minutes which has been glued to the back of the preceding set of minutes, informing the Secretary that the brethren of Big Creek could not make it to Lodge that evening owing to the bad weather and the poor condition of the roads. Bro. R. T. Enloe was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason by his Father, Bro. J. V. Enloe.

In March the committee to purchase the church was given full consent to buy the building and all things therein contained including the piano and organ along with the manse. In the spring months, the Master assigned different members to the nine different Schools which were then in the County School District to entertain ways to be able to give them Masonic support.

In May the committee to purchase the church having made an offer and receiving no response was disbanded but P.M. C. T. Reyburn was allowed to stay in contact with the church as a committee of one. Later that evening they listened to a lecture by Wor. Bro. L. E. Weldon about the responsibilities of a Master Mason in the community around him.

In July the Past Master's night drew the biggest crowd ever assembled at Clovis Lodge to this point, there being about 100 persons on the tiler's register. In October of this year they had probably the shortest stated meeting ever in order that they may "go to Fresno and partake in the hospitality of Las Palmas Lodge 366."

In November, Bro. Davis reported the the church could probably be purchased for the sum of $2750.00, $4000.00 for the church and the Manse and all things therein contained. A manse is a Presbyterian clergies house. In December an option to purchase was given and the deal on the church building was cemented for the amount of $4000.00. Clovis Lodge now had a permanent home in which it still resides today.
